Getting started
Involving people living with dementia in research is about building relationships and sharing knowledge to shape more meaningful, inclusive, and impactful work. It brings together lived and learned experience, creating insights and understanding that no formal training can replace.
Involvement in practice
Involvement can take many forms, and that’s completely fine. There’s no single “right” approach. Involvement is best thought of as a spectrum, not a hierarchy.
Communication and language
Good communication is essential to involving people living with dementia in research and means more than sharing information. It’s about building trust, connection, and shared purpose.
Training and support
When we are involving people in dementia research, we are building knowledge together and that means staying open, curious, and willing to learn together. Training should help everyone feel prepared, valued, and supported.
