About Dementia TREE
Growing together: Public Involvement in Dementia research
Work on the TREE website began with a shared aim to improve public involvement in dementia research. People living with dementia, carers, and researchers came together to learn from one another and support involvement that feels useful and respectful.
We ran a national survey and held structured conversations with dementia researchers, research funders, and public partners. We asked how people living with dementia are involved in research. This helped us understand what works well, what people have learned and what is missing.
People shared valuable experience and knowledge. Many wanted more opportunities to share this learning and connect with others. They also asked for better conversation about dementia and research, and for involvement that puts relationships and shared values first.
From this learning, the idea of a tree of knowledge took shape. The roots represent shared values that support public involvement. The branches bring together practical guidance and resources shared by people involved in dementia research. The leaves show what can grow from working together, including learning, trust, and partnership.
The TREE website is built around this structure. It is grounded in four values:
Trust, Respect, Empathy, and Experience.
You can start with the roots to learn what TREE stands for, then explore the branches for practical resources. Over time, we hope this supports new knowledge, partnerships and understanding.
TREE is not fixed or finished. Tell us what would support your practice through our feedback and FAQ sections. In this way, we hope to continue growing new roots and branches together.
